So unfortunately the bad things in the
Bible might be attributed to God/Jesus.
Bible might be attributed to God/Jesus.
The New Testament of the Bible claims that “all Scripture is breathed-out by god”, or that “All Scripture is inspired by God” (depending on the translation of 2 Timothy 3:16-17.) It also claims that God/Jesus is all-knowing, and all-powerful. So because many many mistakes exist in the Bible we unfortunately can’t bring forward claims of God/Jesus’* divinity from the Bible.
English Standard Version:
“All Scripture is breathed out by God, and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”
GOD'S WORD® Translation
“Every Scripture passage is inspired by God…..”
“All Scripture is breathed out by God, and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”
GOD'S WORD® Translation
“Every Scripture passage is inspired by God…..”
Darby Bible Translation
“Every scripture [is] divinely inspired…..”
“Every scripture [is] divinely inspired…..”
It also says that god is responsible for the
content of the scripture:
Contemporary English Version
“The prophets did not think these things up on their own, but they were guided by the Spirit of God.” – 2 Peter 1:21
Contemporary English Version
“The prophets did not think these things up on their own, but they were guided by the Spirit of God.” – 2 Peter 1:21
Add that to the 17+ verses in the New
Testament that say that Jesus IS GOD, and the Bible is saying that all passages in the Bible
are breathed-out, or divinely inspired by, the all-knowing and all-powerful God/Jesus.
The New Testament also says that Jesus arguably
strongly approves
of the old law and the prophets.
We’ve risen to a higher level of morality and compassion than the old law and
the prophets - and if you have as well, then you've moved to a higher level than the New Testament, arguably.
Because of all this, we feel it’s risky to
believe in God/Jesus because of the often unethical nature of his (allegedly inspired)
words in the Bible – so we’ve created our own, more ethical, teachings. Do you
have the courage to do that?
As you become more and more ethical, would not your chances of getting into "heaven", and avoiding "hell" (if they exist), increase? So would Scientific Humanism be your best shot at a favorable afterlife (if it exists)?
Are we wrong? Tell us what you think.
