religion that says they get into "heaven", and avoid "hell (if any), just by being good - even if they make the honest mistake of picking the "wrong" religion (out of the 5000+ religions on offer.) |
We believe that the criteria for getting into "heaven" (if any), and avoiding "hell", would be based on being ethical and doing good works - not on which of the 5000+ unscientific/unproven "gods" you just happen to pick. We believe "god" would be at least as loving as we ourselves are.
If an all-knowing and all-loving "god" exists, then he'd do what's best for all of his children. Brutal torture, for "eternity", for being born into, say, Buddhism, is obviously not what's best for his children. "God" would be as compassionate as a Scientific Humanist. We believe that, deep down, you are this compassionate as well. We believe in you!
We bring the good parts of these books forward, such as "love your neighbor" - but not the other parts. You are so incredible that you deserve a belief system that does that.

For the iniquity of the Jews We made unlawful for them certain
(foods) good and wholesome which had been lawful for them;- in that they
hindered many from Allah's Way;- That they took usury, though they were

are the things that ye used to invoke besides Allah?" They will reply,
"They have left us in the lurch," And they will bear witness against

company of the peoples who passed away before you - men and jinns, - into the
Fire." Every time a new people enters, it curses its sister-people (that
went before), until they follow each other, all into the Fire. Saith the last
about the first: "Our Lord! it is these that misled us: so give them a
double penalty in the Fire." He will say: "Doubled for
all" : but this ye do not understand. Then the first will say to the
last: "See then! No advantage have ye over us; so taste ye of the penalty
for all that ye did!" To those who reject Our signs and treat them with
arrogance, no opening will there be of the gates of heaven, nor will they enter
the garden, until the camel can pass through the eye of the needle: Such is Our
reward for those in sin. For them there is Hell, as a couch (below) and folds
and folds of covering above: such is Our requital of those who do wrong. Qur'an 7:36-41
Know they not that for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger,
is the Fire of Hell?- wherein they shall dwell. That is the supreme disgrace. Qur'an 9:63
Make ye no excuses: ye have rejected Faith after ye had accepted
it. If We pardon some of you, We will punish others amongst you, for that they
are in sin. The Hypocrites, men and women, (have an understanding) with each
other: They enjoin evil, and forbid what is just, and are close with their
hands. They have forgotten Allah; so He hath forgotten them. Verily the
Hypocrites are rebellious and perverse. Allah hath promised the Hypocrites men
and women, and the rejecters, of Faith, the fire of Hell: Therein shall they
dwell: Sufficient is it for them: for them is the curse of Allah, and an enduring
punishment,- Qur'an 9:66-68
O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the
Hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell,- an evil refuge
indeed. They swear by Allah that they said nothing (evil), but indeed they
uttered blasphemy, and they did it after accepting Islam; and they meditated a
plot which they were unable to carry out: this revenge of theirs was (their)
only return for the bounty with which Allah and His Messenger had enriched
them! If they repent, it will be best for them; but if they turn back (to their
evil ways), Allah will punish them with a grievous penalty in this life and in
the Hereafter: They shall have none on earth to protect or help them. Qur'an 9:73-74
Those who slander such of the believers as give themselves
freely to (deeds of) charity, as well as such as can find nothing to give
except the fruits of their labour,- and throw ridicule on them,- Allah will
throw back their ridicule on them: and they shall have a grievous penalty.
Whether thou ask for their forgiveness, or not, (their sin is unforgivable): if
thou ask seventy times for their forgiveness, Allah will not forgive them:
because they have rejected Allah and His Messenger: and Allah guideth not those
who are perversely rebellious. Those who were left behind (in the Tabuk
expedition) rejoiced in their inaction behind the back of the Messenger of
Allah: they hated to strive and fight, with their goods and their persons, in
the cause of Allah: they said, "Go not forth in the heat." Say,
"The fire of Hell is fiercer in heat." If only they could understand!
Let them laugh a little: much will they weep: a recompense for the (evil) that
they do. Qur'an 9:79-82
They will swear to you by Allah, when ye return to them, that ye
may leave them alone. So leave them alone: For they are an abomination, and
Hell is their dwelling-place,-a fitting recompense for the (evil) that they

Certain of the desert Arabs round about you are hypocrites, as
well as (desert Arabs) among the Medina folk: they are obstinate in hypocrisy:
thou knowest them not: We know them: twice shall We punish them: and in

To Him will be your return- of all of you. The promise of Allah
is true and sure. It is He Who beginneth the process of creation, and repeateth
it, that He may reward with justice those who believe and work righteousness;
but those who reject Him will have draughts of boiling fluids, and a penalty

Those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, but are
pleased and satisfied with the life of the present, and those who heed not Our

ignominy will cover their (faces): No defender will they have from (the wrath
of) Allah: Their faces will be covered, as it were, with pieces from the depth
of the darkness of night: they are companions of the Fire: they will abide
therein (for aye)! One day shall We gather them all together. Then shall We say
to those who joined gods (with Us): "To your place! ye and those ye joined
as 'partners' We shall separate them, and their "Partners" shall say:
"It was not us that ye worshipped! Qur'an 10:27-28
At length will be said to the wrong-doers: 'Taste ye the
enduring punishment! ye get but the recompense of what ye earned!'" Qur'an 10:52
Say: "Those who invent a lie against Allah will never
prosper." A little enjoyment in this world!- and then, to Us will be their
return, then shall We make them taste the severest penalty for their blasphemies. Qur'an 10:69-70
Moses prayed: "Our Lord! Thou hast indeed bestowed on
Pharaoh and his chiefs splendour and wealth in the life of the present, and so,
Our Lord, they mislead (men) from Thy Path. Deface, our Lord, the features of
their wealth, and send hardness to their hearts, so they will not believe until
they see the grievous penalty." Qur'an 10:88
And we sent Moses, with Our Clear (Signs) and an authority
manifest, Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs: but they followed the command of Pharaoh
and the command of Pharaoh was no right (guide). He will go before his people
on the Day of Judgment, and lead them into the Fire (as cattle are led to
water): But woeful indeed will be the place to which they are led! And they are
followed by a curse in this (life) and on the Day of Judgment: and woeful is
the gift which shall be given (unto them)!

If thy Lord had so willed, He could have made mankind one
people: but they will not cease to dispute. Except those on whom thy Lord hath
bestowed His Mercy: and for this did He create them: and the Word of thy Lord
shall be fulfilled: "I will fill Hell with jinns and men all together." Qur'an 11:118-119
But they sought victory and decision (there and then), and
frustration was the lot of every powerful obstinate transgressor. In front of
such a one is Hell, and he is given, for drink, boiling fetid water. In gulps
will he sip it, but never will he be near swallowing it down his throat: death
will come to him from every quarter, yet will he not die: and in front of him
will be a chastisement unrelenting. Qur'an 14:15-17
And thou wilt see the sinners that day bound together in
fetters;- Their garments of liquid pitch, and their faces covered with Fire;
That Allah may requite each soul according to its deserts; and verily Allah is
swift in calling to account. Qur'an 14:49-51
And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all! To it are
seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners)
assigned. Qur'an 15:43-44
If any do wish for the transitory things (of this life), We
readily grant them - such things as We will, to such person as We will: in the
end have We provided Hell for them: they will burn therein, disgraced and

Say, "The truth is from your Lord": Let him who will

prepared a Fire whose (smoke and flames), like the walls and roof of a tent,
will hem them in: if they implore relief they will be granted water like melted
brass, that will scald their faces, how dreadful the drink! How uncomfortable a
couch to recline on! Qur'an 18:29
One Day He will say, "Call on those whom ye thought to be
My partners," and they will call on them, but they will not listen to
them; and We shall make for them a place of common perdition. And the Sinful
shall see the fire and apprehend that they have to fall therein: no means will they
find to turn away therefrom. Qur'an 18:52-53
On that day We shall leave them to surge like waves on one
another: the trumpet will be blown, and We shall collect them all together. And
We shall present Hell that day for Unbelievers to see, all spread out,-
(Unbelievers) whose eyes had been under a veil from remembrance of Me, and who
had been unable even to hear. Do the Unbelievers think that they can take My
servants as protectors besides Me? Verily We have prepared Hell for the
Unbelievers for (their) entertainment. Qur'an 18:99-53
"Those whose efforts have been wasted in this life, while
they thought that they were acquiring good by their works?" They are those
who deny the Signs of their Lord and the fact of their having to meet Him (in
the Hereafter): vain will be their works, nor shall We, on the Day of Judgment,
give them any weight. That is their reward, Hell, because they rejected Faith,
and took My Signs and My Messengers by way of jest. Qur'an 18:104-53
If only the Unbelievers knew (the time) when they will not be
able to ward off the fire from their faces, nor yet from their backs, and
(when) no help can reach them! Nay, it may come to them all of a sudden and
confound them: no power will they have then to avert it, nor will they (then)
get respite. Qur'an 21:39-40
Verily ye, (unbelievers), and the (false) gods that ye worship
besides Allah, are (but) fuel for Hell! to it will ye (surely) come! If these
had been gods, they would not have got there! but each one will abide therein.
There, sobbing will be their lot, nor will they there hear (aught else). Qur'an 21:98-100
These two antagonists dispute with each other about their Lord:
But those who deny (their Lord),- for them will be cut out a garment of Fire:
over their heads will be poured out boiling water. With it will be scalded what
is within their bodies, as well as (their) skins. In addition there will be
maces of iron (to punish) them. Every time they wish to get away therefrom,
from anguish, they will be forced back therein, and (it will be said),
"Taste ye the Penalty of Burning!"

But those whose balance is light, will be those who have lost
their souls, in Hell will they abide. The Fire will burn their faces, and they
will therein grin, with their lips displaced. "Were not My Signs rehearsed
to you, and ye did but treat them as falsehood?" They will say: "our
Lord! Our misfortune overwhelmed us, and we became a people astray! "Our
Lord! bring us out of this: if ever we return (to Evil), then shall we be
wrong-doers indeed!" He will say: "Be ye driven into it (with
ignominy)! And speak ye not to Me! Qur'an

Nay they deny the hour (of the judgment to come): but We have
prepared a blazing fire for such as deny the hour: When it sees them from a
place far off, they will hear its fury and its ranging sigh. And when they are
cast, bound together into a constricted place therein, they will plead for
destruction there and then! "This day plead not for a single destruction:
plead for destruction oft-repeated!"

"And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in
full view; "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye
worshipped- "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help
themselves?'"Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and
those straying in Evil, "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. Qur'an 26:91-95
If We had so willed, We could certainly have brought every soul
its true guidance: but the Word from Me will come true, "I will fill Hell
with Jinns and men all together." "Taste ye then - for ye forgot the
Meeting of this Day of yours, and We too will forget you - taste ye the Penalty
of Eternity for your (evil) deeds!"

Verily Allah has cursed the Unbelievers and prepared for them a
Blazing Fire,- To dwell therein for ever: no protector will they find, nor
helper. The Day that their faces will be turned upside down in the Fire, they
will say: "Woe to us! Would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the
Messenger!" Qur'an 33:64-66
But those who reject (Allah) - for them will be the Fire of
Hell: No term shall be determined for them, so they should die, nor shall its
Penalty be lightened for them. Thus do We reward every ungrateful one! Therein
will they cry aloud (for assistance): "Our Lord! Bring us out: we shall
work righteousness, not the (deeds) we used to do!" - "Did We not
give you long enough life so that he that would should receive admonition? and
(moreover) the warner came to you. So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds): for
the wrong-doers there is no helper."

Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? For We
have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. For it is a tree that
springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire: The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like
the heads of devils: Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies
therewith. Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling
water. Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire. Qur'an 37:62-68
Yea, such! but - for the wrong-doers will be an evil place of
(Final) Return!- Hell!- they will burn therein, - an evil bed (indeed, to lie
on)!- Yea, such! - then shall they taste it,- a boiling fluid, and a fluid
dark, murky, intensely cold!- And other Penalties of a similar kind, to match
them! Here is a troop rushing headlong with you! No welcome for them! truly,
they shall burn in the Fire! Qur'an 38:55-59
The Unbelievers will be led to Hell in crowd: until, when they
arrive, there, its gates will be opened. And its keepers will say, "Did
not messengers come to you from among yourselves, rehearsing to you the Signs
of your Lord, and warning you of the Meeting of This Day of yours?" The
answer will be: "True: but the Decree of Punishment has been proved true
against the Unbelievers!" (To them) will be said: "Enter ye the gates
of Hell, to dwell therein: and evil is (this) Abode of the Arrogant!" Qur'an 39:71-72
In front of the Fire will they be brought, morning and evening:
And (the sentence will be) on the Day that Judgment will be established:
"Cast ye the People of Pharaoh into the severest Penalty!" Qur'an 40:46
Those who reject the Book and the (revelations) with which We
sent our messengers: but soon shall they know,- When the yokes (shall be) round
their necks, and the chains; they shall be dragged along- In the boiling fetid
fluid: then in the Fire shall they be burned; Then shall it be said to them:
"Where are the (deities) to which ye gave part-worship- "In
derogation of Allah?" They will reply: "They have left us in the
lurch: Nay, we invoked not, of old, anything (that had real existence)."
Thus does Allah leave the Unbelievers to stray. "That was because ye were
wont to rejoice on the earth in things other than the Truth, and that ye were
wont to be insolent. "Enter ye the gates of Hell, to dwell therein: and
evil is (this) abode of the arrogant!"

The sinners will be in the Punishment of Hell, to dwell therein
(for aye): Nowise will the (Punishment) be lightened for them, and in despair
will they be there overwhelmed. Nowise shall We be unjust to them: but it is
they who have been unjust themselves. They will cry: "O Malik! would that
thy Lord put an end to us!" He will say, "Nay, but ye shall
abide!" Verily We have brought the Truth to you: but most of you have a
hatred for Truth. Qur'an 43:74-78
Verily the tree of Zaqqum Will be the food of the Sinful,- Like
molten brass; it will boil in their insides. Like the boiling of scalding
water. (A voice will cry: "Seize ye him and drag him into the midst of the
Blazing Fire! "Then pour over his head the Penalty of Boiling Water,
"Taste thou (this)! Truly wast thou mighty, full of honour! "Truly
this is what ye used to doubt!" Qur'an 44:43-50
(Here is) a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are
promised: in it are rivers of water incorruptible; rivers of milk of which the
taste never changes; rivers of wine, a joy to those who drink; and rivers of
honey pure and clear. In it there are for them all kinds of fruits; and Grace
from their Lord. (Can those in such Bliss) be compared to such as shall dwell
for ever in the Fire, and be given, to drink, boiling water, so that it cuts up
their bowels (to pieces)? Qur'an 47:15-1
(The sentence will be:) "Throw, throw into Hell every
contumacious Rejecter (of Allah)!- "Who forbade what was good,
transgressed all bounds, cast doubts and suspicions; "Who set up another
god beside Allah: Throw him into a severe penalty." Qur'an 50:24-26
One Day We will ask Hell, "Art thou filled to the
full?" It will say, "Are there any more (to come)?" Qur'an 50:30-1
Nay, the Hour (of Judgment) is the time promised them (for their
full recompense): And that Hour will be most grievous and most bitter. Truly
those in sin are the ones straying in mind, and mad. The Day they will be
dragged through the Fire on their faces, (they will hear:) "Taste ye the
touch of Hell!" Qur'an 54:46-48
This is the Hell which the Sinners deny: In its midst and in the
midst of boiling hot water will they wander round! Qur'an 55:43-44
The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of
the Left Hand? (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in
Boiling Water, And in the shades of Black Smoke: Nothing (will there be) to
refresh, nor to please: Qur'an 56:41-44
"Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. "Then
will ye fill your insides therewith, "And drink Boiling Water on top of
it: "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!"
Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! Qur'an 56:52-56
O ye who believe! save yourselves and your families from a Fire
whose fuel is Men and Stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and)
severe, who flinch not (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah,
but do (precisely) what they are commanded.

O Prophet! Strive hard against the Unbelievers and the
Hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell,- an evil refuge
(indeed). Allah sets forth, for an example to the Unbelievers, the wife of Noah
and the wife of Lut: they were (respectively) under two of our righteous
servants, but they were false to their (husbands), and they profited nothing
before Allah on their account, but were told: "Enter ye the Fire along
with (others) that enter!" Qur'an 66:9-10
For those who reject their Lord (and Cherisher) is the Penalty
of Hell: and evil is (such), Destination. When they are cast therein, they will
hear the (terrible) drawing in of its breath even as it blazes forth, Almost
bursting with fury: Every time a Group is cast therein, its Keepers will ask,
"Did no Warner come to you?" They will say: "Yes indeed; a
Warner did come to us, but we rejected him and said, 'Allah never sent down any
(Message): ye are nothing but an egregious delusion!'" They will further
say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we should not (now) be
among the Companions of the Blazing Fire!" They will then confess their
sins: but far will be (Forgiveness) from the Companions of the Blazing Fire! Qur'an 67:6-11
"Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me! "Of no
profit to me has been my wealth! "My power has perished from me!"...
(The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him, "And
burn ye him in the Blazing Fire. "Further, make him march in a chain,
whereof the length is seventy cubits! "This was he that would not believe
in Allah Most High. Qur'an 69:27-33
"So no friend hath he here this Day. "Nor hath he any
food except the corruption from the washing of wounds, "Which none do eat
but those in sin." Qur'an 69:35-37
Amongst us are some that submit their wills (to Allah), and some
that swerve from justice. Now those who submit their wills - they have sought
out (the path) of right conduct: But those who swerve,- they are (but) fuel for
Hell-fire Qur'an 72:14-15
With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them),
And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous.

And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed
their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the
Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and
that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and
that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What
symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He
pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord,
except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. Qur'an 74:26-31
Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, For the transgressors a
place of destination: They will dwell therein for ages. Nothing cool shall they
taste therein, nor any drink, Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky,
intensely cold, A fitting recompense (for them). For that they used not to fear
any account (for their deeds), But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as
false. And all things have We preserved on record. "So taste ye (the
fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in
Punishment." Qur'an 78:21-30
Therefore, when there comes the great, overwhelming (Event),-
The Day when man shall remember (all) that he strove for, And Hell-Fire shall
be placed in full view for (all) to see,- Then, for such as had transgressed
all bounds, And had preferred the life of this world, The Abode will be
Hell-Fire; Qur'an 79:34-39
Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men
and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They
will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire.

Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? Some
faces, that Day, will be humiliated, Labouring (hard), weary,- The while they
enter the Blazing Fire,- The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot
spring, No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' Which will neither
nourish nor satisfy hunger. (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, Qur'an 88:1-8
But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy)
Companions of the Left Hand. On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). Qur'an 90:19-20
Those who reject (Truth), among the People of the Book and among
the Polytheists, will be in Hell-Fire, to dwell therein (for aye). They are the
worst of creatures. Qur'an 98:6
Perish the hands of the Father of Flame! Perish he! No profit to
him from all his wealth, and all his gains! Burnt soon will he be in a Fire of
Blazing Flame! His wife shall carry the (crackling) wood - As fuel!- A twisted
rope of palm-leaf fibre round her (own) neck!
